Eternal Life and Resurrection
Not endless existence but a new kind of life — and a new kind of world
Eternal life in Scripture is not just life that never ends — it is a different quality of life altogether, the life of the coming age, already available now through union with Jesus. And resurrection is not the survival of a soul after death but the restoration of the whole person in a renewed world. This journey traces these twin themes from Genesis to Revelation.
ζωή — Life in Its Fullest Sense
life (literally or figuratively)
Also rendered: life
The Greek zoe is one of John's favorite words — the life that God has in himself, that he breathed into Adam, that flowed from Jesus: not merely biological existence but life in its fullest, richest sense. 'I am come that they might have zoe, and that they might have it more abundantly' — eternal life is not just life that lasts forever but this quality of real, divine life that begins right now.
